Impromptus (EP) - Daniel Kemshell & Olly Chalk

Bandcamp release: 4th August 2023 | PURCHASE

"Impromptus" presents a collaboration between Daniel Kemshell (guitar) and Olly Chalk (piano/synthesizer), featuring five short pieces that seamlessly blend written compositions with electronic sound-sculpting and orchestrated free improvisations. Kemshell and Chalk navigate the expansive sonic landscapes of their instruments with fluidity, transitioning between moments of deep-space beauty and heavy distorted dissonance.

The EP opens with three pieces composed by Daniel, inspired by his exploration of serialist writing and influenced by Richard Rodney Bennett's 1968 impromptus for guitar. Tracks four and five, composed by Olly, offer a contrasting yet complementary perspective, delving into the electronic nature of the project with a more minimalistic approach.

This duo looks forward to evolving their sound together and continuing their musical development. With "Impromptus," they share a snapshot of their creative process and invite listeners to join them on their ongoing exploration of music and collaboration.
